A Year Already?

It seems appropriate to post on the one-year anniversary of leaving my job (which, coincidentally, happens to be today). Thankfully, and even more appropriately, I've got something more relevant than words to mark the occasion:

From A Platform Above

As usual- hope you like it!

As a real philistine of electronic music you should take what I say with a grain of salt. A big one. Rock salt. Still, for me, this track really shines above the rest (most of which I still really like). The rhythm buildup from 4:27 to 5:10 is particularly satisfying.

I just realized that there's a real clarity problem with my previous comment: I intended to call *myself* a philistine of electronic music, not you. (Duh.)

uh oh, it looks like you're right at 72 minutes. time for a release!

and that's not even counting the obligatory 10 minutes of silence and/or droning static before the hidden track (the one with the piano and the ocean noise?)

Must we still be limited by the specifications of an aging medium? If I were a hipster I might wrap around and release the whole shebang on limited edition colored-vinyl 7" 45's- or even better, acetate 78's! But you're right, the coincidence of my year ending and hitting a CD's length are too much to pass up. Release it shall be!

Thus far, this is my favorite I've heard from you, yet. Its melodically and harmonically very interesting. Its a departure from what you've been doing up to this point, I feel like.

I like the horn tone's you're using, it makes it feel pretty orchestral.

The one thing, and maybe this is my quip with Drum and Bass in general, that I'm not super into is breathy vocals. They work here within the context, but I feel like they paint it as a drum and bass offshoot rather than something new and really different. I could almost imagine some lyrics being sung over this.

BTW, I feel like useful criticism of instrumental music is very tricky, without poring over the song and doing a detailed breakdown. If I get the chance I would love to be able to offer this, but then again, who am I.

This is a great track and there is no need to dismantle it.
