A nice pair of Thanksgivings (one with family, one with friends, though neither in hometown Los Angeles), a few good movies (No Country For Old Men- see it!), and a dip in temperature bring us into the last official month of my big year off. Come January 23rd, I'll be back to work at The 'Henke, the caveat being that this time I'll be working a reduced schedule to make sure that I can continue work on my music. Surprisingly I'm not dreading the transition (though I am dreading the commute)- I think it's going to be good for me to introduce a counterpoint to my weekly routine (and getting a paycheck again certainly won't hurt).
The question now is how many hours I should devote to that "other" work. I'm lucky to have an employer that's willing to be flexible, so for the most part the decision is mine: do I work fewer hours with fewer auxiliary benefits, or more hours with medical, PTO, holidays, etc? Though I had initially planned for a twenty-four hour per week schedule, it turns out that the sweet spot might be closer to thirty when everything is factored in. If I can cram that in to three days of commuting and a few hours of work at home per week, I think I could be happy. We shall see.
In Nonanews (which is a term that I promise never to use again now that I've actually seen it in writing), Nonagon now has a Facebook profile to go along with the MySpace, Last.fm, and iLike profiles I set up previously. If you're a Facebook type (who isn't these days?) check the link on the right-hand side of this page and have a look / listen! You'll be able to say that you were in on the ground-floor when I'm playing Madison Square Garden next year ;).
Work on new tracks continues, and I should have at least a couple more things to post here before 2008 rolls around. It's year-off crunch time, so look forward to skyrocketing productivity! If only there was an exam at the end of all of this... though that might just lead to a lot of room-cleaning and hand-staring like it did back in college.
See you soon!
